Based in the conviction that complete musical freedom comes through absolute technical control, David’s teaching focuses on the honing of fundamental bassoon skills in the service of musical expressivity. With self expression and informed musical communication as the ultimate goals, studying the bassoon at a high level can benefit every student, regardless of career aspirations.
David Young teaches a method of reed making derived primarily from his teacher, Christopher Millard. He endeavors to demystify reed making by focusing on the physics of reed design through detailed explanation and demonstration.
